1 - Leaves and Needles

A. Convert sunlight to sugars through a process known as Photosynthesis

B. Help balance the water in a tree by transpiring (sweating)

C. Absorb Carbon Dioxide and produce Oxygen (cooling our atmosphere)

2 - Branches

Support and spread the canopy of Sugar producing leaves.

Transport the Sugars and Nutrients throughout the tree.

3 – Trunk and Vascular System

Move Sugars down to root system, nutrients and water up to canopy of tree, through a process of osmosis.

4 – Root System

The most important part of the Tree and often the most overlooked! Not as deep as you think… Most root systems in Utah don’t go any deeper than 16″ but spread out much farther from side to side.

A. Gathers water and nutrients for the tree.

B. Provides a physical anchor for stability
